Independence Day Reception 2026: Save the Date

The Nigeria High Commission, Canberra, will host its flagship Independence Day reception in Canberra on 1 October 2026, marking 66 years since Nigeria's independence from British colonial rule.

The reception brings together members of the Nigerian community, Australian government representatives, diplomatic colleagues and friends of Nigeria for an evening celebrating the country's culture, achievements and the strength of the Nigeria–Australia relationship.

This year's programme will include cultural performances, remarks from the High Commissioner, and an opportunity for guests to connect with representatives from across the Mission's consular, trade and community affairs teams.

Formal invitations and registration details will be shared closer to the date. Members of the community wishing to be included on the invitation list are encouraged to ensure their contact details are up to date with the Mission.
