High Commissioner Receives Australian Agribusiness Delegation

The High Commissioner, Ambassador Olufemi O. Pedro, received a delegation of senior Australian agribusiness executives at the Chancery in Canberra on Wednesday, in a meeting focused on expanding trade and investment cooperation between Nigeria and Australia's agriculture and food-processing sectors.

The visiting delegation, representing companies active in grain handling, livestock genetics and agri-technology, held discussions with the High Commissioner on opportunities across Nigeria's agricultural value chain, from primary production through to processing, storage and export logistics.

Key areas of discussion

Ambassador Pedro welcomed the delegation's interest and outlined several priority areas where the High Commission is encouraging closer collaboration, including:

• Technology transfer in irrigation, grain storage and cold-chain logistics
• Joint ventures in livestock breeding and animal health
• Capacity-building partnerships with Nigerian agricultural research institutes
• Streamlined market access for agricultural exports in both directions

“Nigeria's agricultural sector offers significant opportunities for partnership, and Australia's expertise in agribusiness technology and sustainable farming practices makes this a natural area for closer cooperation,” the High Commissioner said. “We look forward to translating today's discussions into concrete projects.”

The delegation's visit forms part of a wider programme of engagement between the Mission and the Australian business community, ahead of the next Nigeria–Australia Trade & Investment Forum.
