Requirements

Required documents

All of the following are required to support a Standard passport application.

1Standard applicants — On the day of the appointment, applicants are required to bring along the following:

  • Appointment slip

  • Administration Fee of $50AUD Money Order made out to Nigeria High Commission

  • Old passport

  • Photocopy of Data Page of Passport

  • Printed Completed Online Application Form

  • Printed Payment Slip

  • Pre-paid trackable return envelope (we suggest a Platinum Express envelope)

2For minors (children under 18) — Additional documents for minors

  • Letter of Consent signed by both parents

  • Birth Certificate

  • Photocopy of Data Page of Passports of both parents

3Change of name due to marriage — Additional documents for a change of name

  • Marriage Certificate

  • Letter of Consent from husband for change of name

  • Photocopy of data page of husband’s passport

  • Nigerian newspaper publication of change of name for marriages contracted in Nigeria

4Lost passport — Documents required to report a lost passport

Contactless Passport Application System

How to Apply:

Eligible Applicants should follow these steps:

  1. Visit the official NIS Passport Application Portal: Visit the official NIS Passport Application Portal at http://passport.immigration.gov.ng. Select “Apply from Outside Nigeria” and click “Apply for Renewal/Reissue.
  2. Verify your identity: Create an account and enter your National Identification Number (NIN) and Date of Birth to verify your identity.
  3. Complete the application form: Complete the application form, select your preferred Processing Embassy, upload all the required documents, and pay the applicable passport fee for your chosen booklet type.
  4. Get your Application ID & Reference Number: After completing the application, obtain your Application ID and Reference Number. You will then be redirected to either book an appointment or choose the Contactless option.
  5. Opt in for Contactless: To proceed with the Contactless process, select “Opt-in for Contactless” under the “Application Status/Book Appointment” section and download the NIS Mobile App on your Android device.
  6. Set up the NIS Mobile App: Log in or create a profile on the NIS Mobile App. Select “Passport Application Services”, then “Passport Biometric Enrolment”.
  7. Confirm your eligibility: Enter your Application ID and Reference Number to confirm your eligibility.
  8. Complete your biometrics: Once confirmed, capture your facial image and fingerprints, complete the liveness verification process, submit your biometrics, and pay the Contactless Service Fee.

Submission of Documents;

After successfully submitting your biometrics through the NIS Mobile App, print your completed application form and send it together with your current international passport, in a self-addressed envelope to the Processing Embassy you selected during your application.

Applicants can track the status of their application approximately three (3) weeks after submission by visiting http://track.immigration.gov.ng or through the NIS Mobile App.
